Why I Teach

Science has always run in my family. My Great Great Grandfather was in on the first land surveys on Yellowstone park in 1904, my Grandfather was a professor of Gelogy at The Ohio State University (see if you can find where Mt. Schopf is), my Uncle is a Science professor at U.C.L.A., my father was a Paleontology Professor at the University of Chicago and my brother was a Paleontology student at Harvard before moving to teach at a private school in Boston. Science of course.

I grew up around science and really grew to love it over the years, so it was just natural to me to want to teach it. I think this love I have for science, especially Biology, and Paleontology, carries over into my 7th Grade classroom.

The Obligatory Bio

My family is very important to me. My wife, Erin, and I recently had our first baby on March 12, 2004. His name is Griffin Hayes Jerome Schopf. A lot of people say why give him such a long name? That is a tradition in our family to have two middle name. My father had two middle names, his name was Thomas Joseph Morton Schopf; and I have two middle name Carl Arthur William Schopf. So it is just a way to pass on a little history to my son.
