Why I Teach
What's a special moment you've had with students?
I LOVE when I see the lightbulb go off during an 'ah-haaaa!' moment. This is especially gratifying when a have taken pains to develop activities to make an especially abstract concept more concrete. It makes you excited to come back with MORE the next day!
The Obligatory Bio
I have been teaching for thirty years, and have had many fine experiences to remember. I have one big regret: In those thirty years, I have taken only one sabbatical. For those of you who are not at the end of your career, don't EVER give up your formal education. Though I have had classes periodically, nothing has renewed my excitement like a return to school on a full-time basis. This recent sabbatical opportunity has allowed me to immerse myself in learning adventures likely to totally change my entire teaching repertoire. In our district, we are allowed a semester every 5 years. If I had to do it over, I would have taken every one of them. Be a lifelong learner! You'll never regret it!
