Who makes decisions? How can we influence the decision making process? Civics and Citizenship is about having an understanding of out political system and working out how we can make a contribution to it.
Elections is a key time when we have the opportunity to exercise our democratic right to have a voice. How well do you understand the election process and know about what is happening in your local area>
Questions
- What is a political party?
- Explain the difference between a district and a province. Identify the district and province which you live in.
- Who is the member of Parliament for your area. What political party do they represent?
- What swing is required to change the member of your district and province? How does this compare for the whole state?
- Identify who the leader of the Liberal Party is. Explain what you think the message behind the Liberal Party campaign slogan means.
- Which political party is Steve Bracks leader of? What party forms government in Victoria? Explain what you think the ALP election slogan means.

The Big Question
Write an editorial for your local newspaper explaining the political situation for your local community.
Between now and when the election is held take note of the key political issues which are being discussed in your area.
Conclusion
You will now have a better understanding of the election to be held in Victoria on November 30th and how important your local area may be in regards to changing government.
