Introduction

On the 25th of April each year across Australia a public holiday is observed to commemorate ANZAC Day. This Hunt will enable you to develop knowledge and understanding of the historical events behind this day.

Questions

  1. What does ANZAC stand for? Who is regarded as an ANZAC? When does ANZAC day take place?
  2. Identify and list the key features of an ANZAC Day ceremony.
  3. On a world map label the places where Australians saw active service during WWI.
  4. Outline the role which women played at Gallipoli. Under what conditions did the women work?
  5. Describe the landscape at ANZAC Cove. Explain why the Australians had difficulty on arrival at this site.
  6. How many soldiers were wounded and killed at Gallipoli?
