Introduction

Some of Australia’s nearest neighbours are found on the Asian continent. Australia as a country is linked to these neighbours politically, economically, socially and, of course, geographically. As a member of the global community it is important that Australians understand their nearest neighbours.

Questions

  1. List the countries that border China.
  2. How many countries can you find that are ‘landlocked’ (that is completely cut of from the sea?
  3. Make a table listing the countries with names you know and those you do not. Eg. Known – Unknown.
  4. Which countries do you think Australia would be most likely to trade with? Why?
  5. Which countries do you think would have the most political power in the region? Why?
  6. After doing the Questions try the quiz.

Conclusion

This has been a short introduction to Asia’s geography. With a little luck you have come to realise the diversity of nations packed into the continent of Asia and where they are. If you want to check how you've done, read the evaluation rubric for this activity. Remember, with so much info exploding all around us, finding a nugget of knowledge is not as important as doing something with it. What will you do with your learning?
